METTLER TOLEDO is expanding its foreign material re-inspection capabilities with the opening of a new X-ray Reclaim facility in Dallas, Texas, designed to support food manufacturers responding to suspected contamination incidents.
Scheduled to open on 5 October 2026, the facility will provide manufacturers with access to professionally managed re-inspection, contaminant extraction, application validation and documented reporting services. The site is intended to give food producers greater flexibility when dealing with quarantined finished goods and potential foreign material concerns.
Although the service supports a broad range of food applications, it is particularly relevant to high-volume packaged food sectors such as snacks, where manufacturers may need to assess affected products quickly while minimising production disruption and product loss.
Rapid response for quarantined products
The Dallas facility will enable manufacturers to send quarantined finished goods to a dedicated location for inspection and contaminant extraction. METTLER TOLEDO said the service is designed to support different project sizes, product types and operational requirements.
For manufacturers that prefer to keep products on-site, the company will also continue to provide mobile re-inspection services. Fully equipped teams can be deployed directly to production facilities, allowing affected inventory to be evaluated closer to where it is being held.
Mobile deployments are typically available within 48 hours following application validation and project authorisation, depending on location, project scope, equipment requirements and scheduling.
JP Perreault, Head of X-ray Reclaim Services at METTLER TOLEDO, said manufacturers require rapid access to reliable inspection resources when dealing with potential foreign material incidents.
Advanced X-ray inspection technology
X-ray Reclaim services use PXT photon-counting X-ray inspection technology to support the detection of a range of foreign materials.
These can include ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, glass, stone, bone, mineralised contaminants and selected low-density materials.
Each project begins with application testing to establish appropriate detection thresholds according to the specific product, packaging format and suspected contaminant.
The testing process allows the X-ray Reclaim team to determine the most appropriate inspection approach before re-inspection begins, while supporting traceability and documented reporting throughout the project.
METTLER TOLEDO said the combination of its new Dallas facility and mobile re-inspection capability will give food manufacturers greater flexibility when responding to contamination concerns, helping them evaluate quarantined products while reducing operational disruption.
