METTLER TOLEDO Introduces M50 R-Series

METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection Group has introduced its M50 R-Series AdvancedLine metal detectors to the North American market, with the new range set to be showcased at Pack Expo on booth 2122. The systems are designed to help food manufacturers improve contaminant detection, traceability, connectivity and overall production line performance.

The launch comes as manufacturers face increasing pressure to maintain product safety while managing faster production speeds, more complex product formats and growing compliance requirements.

“The launch of the M50 R-Series reflects how closely we have listened to our customers. We understand the pressures that food manufacturers face every day: balancing productivity with growing expectations around compliance, traceability and digital connectivity,” said Jaison Anand, Market Manager – Metal Detection at METTLER TOLEDO Product Inspection.

Greater sensitivity for snack applications

The M50 R-Series introduces a number of developments aimed at increasing detection sensitivity across a broad range of food applications.

The M55R is designed for dry products including pasta, savoury snacks and deep-frozen produce where thawing does not occur. It incorporates eDrive PLUS technology which, when combined with a 900 kHz frequency, is designed to improve field strength and increase sensitivity to small and irregularly shaped metal contaminants.

The M55RB is intended for bulk applications including sacks, bags of powder and cartons, with radio frequency interference shielding helping to reduce external interference in larger-aperture applications.

For more challenging products, the M56R is designed to inspect chilled, wet, dry and frozen products, as well as products wrapped in metallised film. The model uses multiple simultaneous frequencies alongside the company’s 3S PLUS algorithm and AI-based machine learning to reduce product signal interference and minimise false rejects.

The inclusion of a 900 kHz tuned frequency also enables the system to handle dry products, making it suitable for manufacturers running a varied product portfolio.

Automation supports uptime and traceability

METTLER TOLEDO has also focused on simplifying operation and reducing routine testing time.

The range features a new 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen designed to provide clear visualisation and straightforward navigation. The interface can be operated while wearing gloves and in wet conditions.

An INFINITY Electronic Test System automates production performance monitoring and routine test procedures. According to METTLER TOLEDO, the system can complete testing up to three times faster than manual methods and can perform tests without operator intervention.

Embedded Wi-Fi provides access to system information through QR code functionality, while enhanced condition monitoring and data transfer capabilities are intended to reduce production disruption.

The systems also feature RFID-based access control, enabling individual user logins and detailed access records. Data can be stored locally or transferred using communication protocols including OPC-UA and EtherNet/IP.
