Cambodian ethical food brand Ibis Rice has unveiled its latest innovation: organic bean and rice cakes – a convenient and nutritious snack that offers a natural source of protein and fibre.
Available in two variants – plain and kelp sea salt – the new products cater to rising consumer demand for functional snacking options, particularly those enriched with protein.
More than just a healthy snack, the bean and rice cakes reflect Ibis Rice’s commitment to environmental regeneration and sustainable farming practices. The rice used is cultivated using traditional methods, planted once annually in harmony with Cambodia’s monsoon-driven flood cycles.
To further enhance sustainability, Ibis Rice has implemented intercropping techniques with red black-eye beans. These legumes naturally fertilise the soil, improving fertility and boosting yields, while also playing a role in supporting local biodiversity and preventing deforestation.
By integrating two bean harvests before and after the rice season, farmers engaged with Ibis Rice can now benefit from income three times a year rather than just once. This diversified income stream is a vital component of building long-term climate resilience and financial security for rural communities.
Nicholas Spencer, CEO at Ibis Rice Conservation Co, commented:
“Of course, a new product launch is always exciting, but this one is particularly noteworthy for us as a business. Not only do the bean and rice cakes taste delicious, they are the absolute embodiment of what Ibis Rice stands for – good for farmers, wildlife, the planet and our customers.”
The company sources rice directly from its farming partners and handles packaging and processing in Cambodia to retain added value within the country before distributing to the UK market.
The new Ibis Rice bean and rice cakes will be available this month at select independent retailers across the UK.
